The Power of the Collective

The Resistance-Based Practices of the Cecosesola Cooperative in Venezuela

06.11.2026

Café CI at Yppenplatz, 1160 Vienna / MILA, Viventogasse 29, 1120 Vienna

As a warm-up event for the Impuls Academy and Tipping Points #13 (“Resistance Together”) in November, we cordially invite you to an exciting evening and an in-depth workshop focusing on the resistance practices of the Cecosesola cooperative in Venezuela. After all, “together” also means drawing inspiration from one another and not always having to reinvent the wheel.

Come join us—over the course of two sessions, we’ll explore what we can learn from Cecosesola for our own contexts:

  • November 5 at 5:00 p.m. – Presentation & discussion at Café CI, Yppenplatz 1160, Vienna (wheelchair accessible). We welcome voluntary donations.
  • November 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. – In-depth workshop at MILA, Viventogasse 29, 1120 Vienna,
    . Register at info@impuls-akademie.org

Cecosesola was founded in 1967 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and is a nonprofit cooperative umbrella organization. It comprises over 50 community organizations and has more than 1,500 members.

Together, they take care of one another and provide each other with: health care, food markets, agriculture, funeral services, a school, a savings bank, and even more businesses, thereby supporting hundreds of thousands of people. Cecosesola deliberately operates without fixed hierarchies, with rotating responsibilities and consensus-based decision-making. In 2022, they were awarded the Right Livelihood Award (“alternative Nobel Prize”), in part for their long-standing resilience and strength, even during Venezuela’s economic crisis and hyperinflation: Instead of scaling back, Cecosesola organized additional supply runs and established new delivery partnerships, while maintaining a solidarity-based pricing model in which the total production costs are divided by the harvest volume to achieve a uniform, fair price per kilogram.

On November 5 and 6, Commons researchers Sigi and Luis will share their experiences and discuss their visits and conversations at Cecosesola’s facilities.

Please register for November 6 at info@impuls-akademie.org

The event is being held in cooperation with the Impuls Academy — save the date: April 4–10, 2027!
